I am thrilled to announce a new series at Frugal Living, In The Kitchen with Kate. Kate is a dear friend and has a passion for helping people learn to cook healthy, frugal and doable meals. Every week, Kate will bring us a short cooking lesson or an easy recipe that we can try out on our families. Nothing fancy, which is just right for those of us who are used to take-out or already prepared meals.
Be sure to ask lots of questions. Nothing is too elementary, we promise!
Cooking has become a passion of mine. Not fancy cooking, but down-home, user-friendly cooking. I have no formal training, but I’ve had the most important training: hands-on. I’ve made tons of mistakes: cut onions the wrong way, added flour in the wrong order while making a cream sauce. Through those mistakes I’ve gained the confidence to know that I CAN cook and I can make it taste good.
I love teaching people how to cook. I am thrilled when I hear about a successful meal that was prepared by the amateur chef. Not all of us were taught how to cook by our mothers, so we are left to our own devices to figure it out. There’s where I come in. I want to give you the knowledge you need to cook a meal for your family that tastes good and is easy to make.
It takes a bit of time to get comfortable with your skills, but if you start small, it can only get better.
Here’s the first recipe you can try. Very little to get wrong and could become a staple in the monthly menu. This one came from a good friend and always receives rave reviews.
1 box of Stove Top Stuffing
1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
I cup water
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray muffin tins. Mix ingredients. Lump and put into tins. Bake for 30 minutes.
You can put cheese in the middle for extra yummy-ness.
